Did You See This Message To Martin Ferguson MP, Regarding The PM's Email Address?

Dear Minister Ferguson

The electorate has always been able to communicate directly with the Prime Minister, through his or her office email address, at Parliament House until now.

Almost all Federal Members of Parliament have a direct email box @aph.gov.au – and it is extraordinary that the Prime Minister should choose to have her  usual @aph.gov.au email address closed, when matters of great future importance are being considered.

Make no…

The need to start Abuse Prevention Education as young as possible.

I recently read some statistics out of the USA (Snyder,H), the most disturbing one of all was that 14% of  all victims of Sexual Assault reported to Law Enforcement Agencies were under the age of 6.  This only goes to strengthen my conviction about the need to start Abuse Prevention Education as young as possible.…

Can You Spoil Your Children With Too Much Praise?

Praise IS better than Prozac! The greatest praise you can give an author is to engage with them, in their books.  I have been meaning to ask you, "What do you think about books and how we interact with them? Do you "own" your own books?"

It seems to me that every book needs to be owned – its margins written in and phrases underlined. At first, the idea of ‘defacing’ a book by adding your own thoughts to it might shock you, but there is nothing…

Swimming With My Dad - Facebook Quiz

My Dad featured as the first character in Stories My Nana Tells - being introduced to our readers as a father and grandfather.  Characters at Stories My Nana Tells

Nono (real name William) is 92 - will soon be 93 - and the skin on his legs, in particular, has become fragile over the years. A bump or a knock and the skin tears very easily.  So, now I take him swimming in the ocean once a week to help…

Major Tom To Ground Control

We fly all over the place these days and airlines have trouble even getting us to watch the safety videos, even though we do usually sit in a different place on the plane each time we fly.  The next time you are airborne give a thought and a prayer of support for the Air Traffic Controllers who work so hard to keep our flying bedsteads from running into one another.

Online Friends

~ Online Friends ~

I told someone just the other day

That I had friends all over the place

They wondered how I could say I knew

Someone I hadn't met face to face

We write little notes and send out sites

And a few write just to say "Hey"

Then I have a few special ones

That I talk to every single day

At times when I can't sleep at night

I will often go online

There I will find a friend or two

That will help me pass the… Continue

Facebook Conversations About Fireworks and Floods

There were a number of conversations being held on Facebook today and yesterday, about whether any fireworks events planned for Australia Day should be cancelled and the money donated to the various flood relief appeals.

Some Facebook pages were quickly set up to engage the discussion and the overwhelming view was that it was too late to cancel and in the light of the flood tragedies on the East Coast and the…

Queensland Floods - Please Help!

It is January 12 - 2011. The East Coast of Australia is in the grip of the worst floods this country has ever seen, since it was settled over 200 years ago.

As a nation, we have spent the past 24 hours mesmerised by the tragedy unfolding before us on live TV.  I have many friends on Twitter and Facebook in Queensland and the Gold Coast / Northern New South Wales. We have family in Brisbane. I have business friends of…

Photos, Memories and Time

Having never done it properly before, I have decided to collate all my printed photos into a set of lovely albums.

I bought a matching set of 10 at Things over the holiday break. They will hold 2,000 photos and postcards and I bought as many albums as I expected to need, so that they will make a beautful display as well as keeping my precious pictures safe.

Once I…

I Am Going To America! Do You Like That?

One of my favourite performers is Neil Diamond and I really love his song "Coming To America".  It has great vibrancy and enthusiasm. This version was filmed, live, in 2002 in Dublin. Neil Diamond in Ireland

Songs like Brooklyn Roads are among my favourites, too, and it will be really exciting to see and hear him live in Perth on March 29, 2011. Less…

Firefox and LinkedIn

I was having no success at all, logging into LinkedIn with a Firefox browser.  Having made the switch to Firefox, it was a real pain to have to use Internet Explorer for just that one log in. I posted the question on http://quora.com.

During the week, I discovered that some Facebook accounts (when you post in the mobile version) would not make a link active unless the URL was posted INCLUDING www - for example…

Webmail Work Around For New Password For Wordpress

Being away from home (#catsitting) - I am without my usual password referral list and could not log into my Wordpress account.  So, I requested a link to set a new password.

Three times, the link arrived at Telstra webmail (where I was logged on to my primary account) and twice, when I tried to action the link, Wordpress said that the link was not valid.

The third time, without opening the email, I forwarded it to the address that comes to my iPhone.  When it arrived, I simply…

Around The World in 20 Days - LAX

It has been nearly six years since I wrote this blog post for my daughter-in-law, Lisa.  It was my first trip to London, after going to the US and Canada and I thought of it today, when checking out stuff for my next trip to Los Angeles.

It's funny, really.  I have been to Las Vegas three times - and have never left the LAX airport.  So, my trip to Los Angeles in April this year will be a very new…

One Minute Tip - Ideas

Do you often have an idea or a reminder pop into your head and need to keep track of it, until it is done?

Carry half a dozen or more small cards in your pocket or handbag; tucked into your working folder or diary. Newsagents have them - sized about 2 inches deep x 3 1/2 inches wide.
